Stretch mark is a form of skin scarring associated with pregnancy, obesity, puberty, and short-term weight gain from physical activities. Thanks to Fractional CO2 laser and Carbo-Lite (CO2 infusion), stretch marks can be reduced effectively.
Stretch marks form when the dermis, the middle layer of the skin that maintains shape and elasticity is stretched more than it can tolerate. Connective fibers in the skin eventually break, disrupting collagen production and causing scarring.
There are treatments available, particularly with Lasers, which can help improve stretch marks, however, no treatment can yet make a stretch mark go all the way back to looking like totally normal skin. Laser treatments can reduce stretch marks, diminish white marks, improve the texture and make them look better, and in some cases almost not visible, but stretch marks are still an area where the condition can be improved but cannot be removed completely. There are no 'perfect' treatments for stretch marks.
Laser treatment for stretch mark
The latest treatment for stretch marks is CO2 Fractional Laser therapy. The idea of CO2 Fractional Laser is to create a number of vertical injuries to the patient's skin with non-treated, uninjured skin in between the treated areas. The CO2 Fractional Laser makes small punctures in the skin leaving normal, untreated skin in between. The untreated skin helps heal the wound quite quickly, replacing the area with new, healthy skin. Once the old, stretched skin is removed, new and unmarred skin grows to replace it. A series of treatment sessions are usually needed to obtain the best results.
The procedure is very safe with an extremely low incidence of side effects, all of which are temporary and minor. There is no limitation to daily activities and patients can resume their chores immediately. The treatment is fast, safe and tolerable. Occasionally, a local anesthetic cream may be applied to make the procedure more comfortable. Click here to know more about Fractional CO2 laser.
Safety, risks and side effects
The treated area normally appears red for a day or two. There will be slight microscopic scab formation which willl disspear within few days. Side effects are generally minor, but may include skin discoloration at the treatment site.
Cost
Cost of Laser treatment for stretch marks depends on the size of the treatment area. On an average it may range from RM 500 - RM 800 for each visit of Laser treatment.
